Kory Mathewson is a Senior Research Scientist with DeepMind and an Associate Industry Member at Mila, the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, currently living in Montreal, Canada. Before his current position, Kory interned at Twitter Cortex, Google Brain Magenta, and Apple Special Projects Group.

He holds a Ph.D. in Computing Science from the University of Alberta supervised by Dr. Patrick Pilarski and affiliated with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute. Kory also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Kory is also a Canadian Comedy Award-winning improvisational theatre artist with Rapid Fire Theatre and Improbotics. He fuses his interests by developing artificial intelligences to perform alongside. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and Time Magazine.

His research interests include interactive machine learning, human-in-the-loop deep reinforcement learning, human-robot interfaces and conversational dialogue systems.
